A-P officials receive insurance payment
PARKERSBURG, Iowa – Aplington-Parkersburg officials were given an early payment of $2 million by EMC Insurance Companies on Friday to help the school district take care of immediate needs.
The high school, which was destroyed by the tornado that hit Parkersburg on May 25, was insured by EMC. Aplington-Parkersburg Superintendent Jon Thompson says the school will eventually recoup its remaining losses.
The district plans to rebuild the high school, a project estimated to cost $14 million. Thompson said the district also needs to cover costs associated with relocating and holding classes and activities until the new building is ready.
